Educational Trip to AKH Group

Bangladesh is an economy that is operating in the secondary sector. The secondary sector uses the help of human activities to transform raw materials into usable products There are a lot of natural and agricultural resources in Bangladesh. The country has a lot of hard rock, limestone, silicone sand, coal, and gas, all of which are important raw materials for many industries. Cotton, textiles, jute, clothing, tea processing, paper newsprint, cement, chemical fertilizers, sugar, and light engineering are Bangladesh's main industries. Bangladesh’s major trading partners for both imports and exports are the USA, India, Japan, China, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and other European countries. The import of both consumer goods and industrial raw materials is essential to Bangladesh's economy. Raw cotton, crude petroleum, wheat, oil, seeds, edible oil, petroleum products, fertilizer, yarn, capital goods, staple fibers, iron, and steel are Bangladesh's primary imports. The garment and textile sector of Bangladesh has reached a unique height by setting up eco-friendly green garment factories.

AKH Eco Apparel Ltd is one of the giant textile factories in Bangladesh. They have been in business for 25 years and their revenue is growing by 15% every year. Last year they have a revenue of 400 million last year and they are targeting a revenue of 450 million this fiscal year. In 2015 they got certified by the US Green Building Council and won the Gold Leed Award. Their slogan is We believe in Green Growth. By going green, compared to that a non-green factory of its size, Eco Apparels has made it happen to reduce its electricity consumption from national greed by 75 MWH per year by way of its solar system, which has reduced the use of fuel oil by 20 MT a year. Machines of cutting-edge energy-efficient technology and scientific use of daylight inside the production floors would save electricity usage by about 500 MWH a year reducing the use of fuel oil by 125 MT per year. The Use of energy-efficient LED bulbs and tubes has saved electricity consumption by about 720 MWH a year and reduced the use of fuel oil by 180 MT per year. They have been working with a lot of fashion brands across the globe.

AKH ECO APPARELS don’t work with local brands in Bangladesh and they take orders in mass quantities to optimize efficiency. They source their raw materials from their own subsidiary brands. They have 16 divisions under them, some of the others. In AKH ECO APPARELS they only produce clothes in a 500,000 ft of floor space, about 6000 workers work in 52 lines & produce about 1.3 million pieces of premium quality woven shirts, blouses, tops, and dresses every month. Their business is very profitable and they have invested more than 1000 crores over the span of 25 years.

I have talked to multiple employees and asked them some day-to-day questions about their work experience in the factory. The first thing I have noticed while talking to the workers is that they are very well-behaved and very polite and well-coming. The working hours of AKH groups are 8 hours every day starting from 8 and ending at 6 but they also have options for overtime. This can extend the time for 2 more extra hours of work in the factory. The workers get only 1 day of weekend per week and limited government holidays to spend time with their family. Most workers are very hard working and came to terms with spending more than half of their life inside the compound of AKH Group. The factory is very organized and beautiful. However, Eco Apparels will offer regular prices – no premium would be quoted for whatever extra cost it has borne for going green.

Inspiring Minds: A Journey of Education, Life, and Gratitude

Education is not only restricted to textbooks and classrooms; it covers a larger knowledge of life, purpose, and the pursuit of achievement. Australian International School Dhaka, promotes complete growth while inspiring pupils to attain their best potential is of highest significance. In a recent engagement project, the school invited Dr. Shahpar Nahrir, a parent of IBDP 1 students Maryam and Amina Bushra, who discussed her life experiences, opinions on education, and important life advice. Dr. Nahrir, having a background in neurological surgery at Evercare Hospital, wants to teach students the significance of hard effort, persistence, and thankfulness in their path towards making a significant effect on society.  The Australian International School's dedication to offering a well-rounded education goes beyond academic differences. Recognizing the relevance of real-life experiences and ideas, the school regularly invites guest speakers to share their tales and viewpoints. Dr...

Exploring Biodiversity: IB DP Year 2 Biology Students Conduct Line Transect Activity

Recently, IB DP Year 2 biology students embarked on an exciting line transect activity on the new school field to study plant species and soil properties. This innovative method of identifying organisms within an ecosystem involves systematic sampling at regular intervals to observe and record biodiversity along a line.   Using a 10-meter rope, students examined organisms every 2 meters along the transect, identifying two plant species: Cornus serica L. and Cenchrus echinatus L. . Despite aiming to collect five soil samples for testing pH, salinity, and total dissolved solids (TDS), the experiment was interrupted by rain, limiting the collection to three samples. Another challenge was the presence of bricks in the soil, which prevented digging at one of the sites. In the lab, students measured TDS levels ranging from 18.2 to 22 ppm, salinity from 17 to 18, and pH between 7.63 and 7.68. This hands-on activity provided valuable insights into the local ecosystem within the...

Inquiry on Smart Farming: Designing a Greener Tomorrow

On the 2 nd week of November, IB DP Year 1 students have come together to work in an interdisciplinary project regarding sustainable agriculture practices. The collaboration was done between the Group 3 subjects: Digital Society, Economics, Business Management and Environmental Systems and Societies. The students worked hard to conduct research and find real world examples and create different presentations regarding the various prospects of sustainable agriculture and its advancements. Sustainable agriculture is a big step for sustainable development, which prioritizes meeting the needs of this generation without compromising the next, so by studying this topic we got a better understanding of the current situation and the scope of improvements.   The Digital Society students focused on what existing technologies are helping agriculture be more sustainable and efficient, including case studies of different farms around the world. Economics students studied how the demand o...
