How RMG relates to Physics: Observations from Educational Field Trip

We recently went on an excursion to a garment factory . The garmentfactory's name is AKH Eco apparels ltd . AKH has developed this ECO-friendly project: AKH ECO Apparels Ltd, on a 15-acre land in Dhamrai by the side of the Dhaka-Aricha highway, strictly adhering to the Gold Category requirements of Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED), which are officially prescribed by the US Green Building Council. The factory has all of the safeguards and features necessary to assure the safety, security, and a good working environment for those who work there. On over 500,000 square feet of floor area, approximately 6000 individuals operate in 52 lines and make approximately 1.3 million pieces of premium quality woven shirts, blouses, tops, and dresses each month.

We were given tasks for each subject based on our previous experience and what we learnt from our visit to the garment factory. Physics is important in textile technology. The study of the structure and physical properties of fibers, yarn, and fabrics forms a cohesive field known as textile physics. It is a crucial component of any textile technician's education. Various textile machinery, such as spinning machines, weaving machines, sewing machines, and so on, are utilized in the production of clothes.

For physics, we were instructed to identify a specific machine from any area of a garment industry and determine its current and power rating. Then we had to calculate the cost of electricity per unit that the manufacturer pays, followed by the cost of running the machine under normal conditions in kw-hr. We were also instructed to conduct interviews with factory workers regarding their travel to the factory. We must determine the time and distance that will be displayed in the velocity-time graph that we learned in physics class.

Exploring Biodiversity: IB DP Year 2 Biology Students Conduct Line Transect Activity

Recently, IB DP Year 2 biology students embarked on an exciting line transect activity on the new school field to study plant species and soil properties. This innovative method of identifying organisms within an ecosystem involves systematic sampling at regular intervals to observe and record biodiversity along a line.   Using a 10-meter rope, students examined organisms every 2 meters along the transect, identifying two plant species: Cornus serica L. and Cenchrus echinatus L. . Despite aiming to collect five soil samples for testing pH, salinity, and total dissolved solids (TDS), the experiment was interrupted by rain, limiting the collection to three samples. Another challenge was the presence of bricks in the soil, which prevented digging at one of the sites. In the lab, students measured TDS levels ranging from 18.2 to 22 ppm, salinity from 17 to 18, and pH between 7.63 and 7.68. This hands-on activity provided valuable insights into the local ecosystem within the...

Inspiring Minds: A Journey of Education, Life, and Gratitude

Education is not only restricted to textbooks and classrooms; it covers a larger knowledge of life, purpose, and the pursuit of achievement. Australian International School Dhaka, promotes complete growth while inspiring pupils to attain their best potential is of highest significance. In a recent engagement project, the school invited Dr. Shahpar Nahrir, a parent of IBDP 1 students Maryam and Amina Bushra, who discussed her life experiences, opinions on education, and important life advice. Dr. Nahrir, having a background in neurological surgery at Evercare Hospital, wants to teach students the significance of hard effort, persistence, and thankfulness in their path towards making a significant effect on society.  The Australian International School's dedication to offering a well-rounded education goes beyond academic differences. Recognizing the relevance of real-life experiences and ideas, the school regularly invites guest speakers to share their tales and viewpoints. Dr...

The 3C’s of Digital Society

The subject Digital Societies is a whole new experience for all the new IBDP students. We look into Global Societies, Technology Innovation, Multimedia, Political Stakes, etc. Digital Societies are divided into several categories and organized according to the terms. During our journey in Term 1, we looked into the hardware and software, evolution of computers, malwares, security, licenses and databases. The students had the opportunity to learn about the digital world, its evolution, and its impact on our societies. In term 2, we are currently working on the Social and Political use of Technology, such as Home and Leisure, IT in Health, Business and learning about the philosophy and arts behind Ergonomics. Digital Societies is categorized in 3 different core elements (Content, Concept and Context). Students can increase their thinking and communication skills through various discussions with their facilitator and peers. We investigate the impacts, laws and regulations, the pros ...
