  Do you like talking about the weather? I guess it is a pretty common topic. But how about in another language? Or even better, weather forecasting in another language? Last week, the French students got tasked to become a weather forecaster! This task involved choosing a city in France and forecasting the city’s weather for the week.  This gave the French students the opportunity to showcase their learning of expressing the weather in French, and roleplay as a weather forecaster! This task also allowed the French students to polish their pronunciation skills as pronunciation is a key aspect when it comes to learning a new language (otherwise others might think we are speaking gibberish). The students showcased their learning in creative manners, through google slides presentation and visuals.  As simple and fun the task might sound, it is an effective method in helping students perfect their pronunciation skills and gain more knowledge regarding appropriate vocabularies and sentences

Presenting the 12 core concepts of Theory of Knowledge in class was both exciting and insightful. TOK is all about critical thinking and delving into the human nature of knowledge. The 12 TOK concepts push us to question how we know what we know. So, to understand these diverse concepts, we were asked to make a creative poster presenting these 12 concepts with examples. While preparing these presentations, we realized how interconnected each of these concepts are with each other. The 12 TOK concepts include, culture, certainty, evidence, explanation, interpretation, justification, objectivity, power, perspective, responsibility, truth, and lastly, values. In addition to discovering the meaning of these individual concepts, each group had to find relevant examples of them, as well as how they impact the formation of knowledge in our society as a whole.   On the 8th of September, the DP-2 students got to present their findings related to the ‘Collaborative Science Project’, an interdisciplinary study combining the science subjects of biology, environmental systems and societies, chemistry and physics. The students utilised the umbrella theme of water under the topic of ‘evaluating water safety through purification and testing’. Through the conducted experiments, students assessed parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, and water hardness. These elements are crucial indicators of water quality and have far-reaching implications for ecosystems, human health, and environmental sustainability. Their findings highlighted variations in water quality across different locations, emphasising the importance of monitoring and maintaining safe water standards.   In today’s world, clean and safe drinking water is something many of us take for granted. But did you know that over 2 billion people around the globe lack access to safe drinking water? That's why the class of DP-2 decided to undertake a collaborative science project regarding the effectiveness of filtering water from different sources.   On the 29th of August, 2024, the students came together and brought samples of water to test for impurities. These samples were collected from a variety of sources, including local streams, lakes, ponds, and even rooftop still water. From this, a variety of tests were undertaken in order to evaluate the initial impurities present as well as the results after.     Biology students located indicative species while observing the surrounding regions of the water sources in order to locate sources of pollution/impurities.   Recently, IB DP Year 2 biology students embarked on an exciting line transect activity on the new school field to study plant species and soil properties. This innovative method of identifying organisms within an ecosystem involves systematic sampling at regular intervals to observe and record biodiversity along a line.   Using a 10-meter rope, students examined organisms every 2 meters along the transect, identifying two plant species: Cornus serica L. and Cenchrus echinatus L. . Despite aiming to collect five soil samples for testing pH, salinity, and total dissolved solids (TDS), the experiment was interrupted by rain, limiting the collection to three samples. Another challenge was the presence of bricks in the soil, which prevented digging at one of the sites. In the lab, students measured TDS levels ranging from 18.2 to 22 ppm, salinity from 17 to 18, and pH between 7.63 and 7.68.
