Exploring the 12 TOK Concepts: Group Presentation by IB DP Year 1

Presenting the 12 core concepts of Theory of Knowledge in class was both exciting and insightful. TOK is all about critical thinking and delving into the human nature of knowledge. The 12 TOK concepts push us to question how we know what we know. So, to understand these diverse concepts, we were asked to make a creative poster presenting these 12 concepts with examples. While preparing these presentations, we realized how interconnected each of these concepts are with each other.

The 12 TOK concepts include, culture, certainty, evidence, explanation, interpretation, justification, objectivity, power, perspective, responsibility, truth, and lastly, values. In addition to discovering the meaning of these individual concepts, each group had to find relevant examples of them, as well as how they impact the formation of knowledge in our society as a whole.

As a group, it was difficult at first to understand such abstract concepts and put them into words, but, through effective teamwork and using real life examples, we were able to understand these concepts and make them more relatable. It was also equally intriguing to see all the other groups’ presentations on the TOK concepts, as everyone had different meanings and examples for each concept.

Through this task, all of us came out to know more about the 12 TOK concepts, having a deeper understanding about all the knowledge surrounding us which have shaped our whole reality.

Cooking Up a Storm with IBDP Students

The students of DP Year 1 and DP ear 2 got to experience several immersive cooking lessons throughout the past few weeks, as part of their CAS activities. Gaining notoriety for being a fan- favorite class amongst students, they have gained a lot of experience and knowledge by using hands-on approaches in cooking and preparing the ingredients. Mr. Asad has been a wonderful guide and taught as many skills as possible including how to use a knife, how to chop vegetables and similar skills. Students were encouraged to participate in cooking by ‘sharpening’ their knife skills, helping prepare the ingredients for assembly, and taking turns in stirring or frying various items on the portable electric stoves provided.  During the first class, the students got to partake in making ‘palak pakoda’, or more commonly known as spinach pakora. Each student had their own share in creating the batter, cutting the spinach stems (as well as dicing leafy, fresh toppings) and frying the crunchy snac...
