Modeling a System Using Candles- ESS Experiment

I am an ESS student and a few days ago we had an experiment called “Modeling a system Using Candles.” The steps of this experiment are: 


1. Carefully light the piece of paper whilst holding it over the enamel dish. Drop the paper into the dish before you burn your fingers.
2. Observe the way in which the fire develops and then dies away.
3. Light the candle observing how the flame develops. Drop some molten wax into the bottom of the dish so that you can stand the candle up on its own.
4. Light a splint and then blow out the candle. Relight the candle bringing the splint towards the wick, watch carefully to see if it is necessary to touch the wick with the flame to relight it.
5. Extinguish the candle and allow the wax to cool down completely. Relight the candle (is it necessary to touch the wick with the flame?) and observe the candle flame.


After the experiment we are supposed to write a lab report explaining the outcomes of the experiments and what our observations were, there is a lab report format we are supposed to follow.

The 3C’s of Digital Society

The subject Digital Societies is a whole new experience for all the new IBDP students. We look into Global Societies, Technology Innovation, Multimedia, Political Stakes, etc. Digital Societies are divided into several categories and organized according to the terms. During our journey in Term 1, we looked into the hardware and software, evolution of computers, malwares, security, licenses and databases. The students had the opportunity to learn about the digital world, its evolution, and its impact on our societies. In term 2, we are currently working on the Social and Political use of Technology, such as Home and Leisure, IT in Health, Business and learning about the philosophy and arts behind Ergonomics. TOK Inquiry

  We were given the topic of electronic cigarettes (also known as vaping) and whether or not they are bad for our health in our most recent TOK lesson. When a liquid is heated in an e-cigarette, it turns into vapors or, more precisely, aerosols that the user can inhale (thus "vaping"). These appliances heat chemicals like nicotine, marijuana, various flavorings, or other potentially hazardous compounds. Nicotine is habit-forming. While less dangerous than smoking, vaping is still not secure. You inhale an aerosol produced by heating nicotine (extracted from tobacco), flavorings, and other compounds in e-cigarettes. There are 7,000 compounds in regular tobacco cigarettes, many of which are harmful.  There is obviously cause for concern given the unfortunate and distressing examples of serious lung illness.
