IBDP Student's Interaction with Cybersecurity Expert

On Tuesday, November 15th, 2022. DP Y1 student Ariyaan Ahmed's father, Mr. Tanmay Ahmed visited the campus to conduct our first Parent - Student Workshop. Mr. Tanmay has been working as a specialist in the field of cybersecurity for years now. He is currently working for the Bangladesh government's cybersecurity division. During this interactive workshop, Mr. Tanmay discussed and interacted with the student's knowledge of Information Technologies and Global Societies (ITGS), a group 3 subject from our IB curriculum taught by Miss Irtifa Ali. Mr. Tanmay discussed why the knowledge of (ICT) or information communications technology is essential to understand in this developing era, where the advancements of technology are constantly changing the world we live in. With the many welfare technological advancements it brings, there are several downsides it brings, such as cybercrime. Mr. Tanmay discussed strategies our government is planning on implementing to fight against cybercrimes and is constantly updating the cybersecurity act of Bangladesh.

I believe this parent-student workshop had a very beneficial exposure to the students of IBDP and especially Miss Irtifa’s ITGS students. I believe more parents could step up to the occasion just like Mr. Tanmay has, as a major part of the learning we have in Ib is with analyzing real-world examples. I’d like to thank Mr. Tanmay Ahmed on behalf of everyone at the Australian International School, my respected peers and students, respected teachers, and respected coordinators.

Inquiry on Smart Farming: Designing a Greener Tomorrow

On the 2 nd week of November, IB DP Year 1 students have come together to work in an interdisciplinary project regarding sustainable agriculture practices. The collaboration was done between the Group 3 subjects: Digital Society, Economics, Business Management and Environmental Systems and Societies. The students worked hard to conduct research and find real world examples and create different presentations regarding the various prospects of sustainable agriculture and its advancements. Sustainable agriculture is a big step for sustainable development, which prioritizes meeting the needs of this generation without compromising the next, so by studying this topic we got a better understanding of the current situation and the scope of improvements. TOK Presentation

On 16th and 17th our TOK Facilitator, Mr. Sajid conducted a practice session for the upcoming TOK Exhibition in May. The TOK Exhibition is crucial in DP, especially in the first year. It contains one third of the overall TOK grade and TOK is a core component in IB. It is essential that students are well prepared for the exhibition. For the practice session, we did not do the full run through of the exhibition. For this practice session we only had to pick one object for the prompt and theme, instead of three in the actual exhibition. We had to create a display for that one object and present it to the class and our DP Coordinator. This has been incredibly helpful for the students, because it gives us an idea of what prompt and theme we will choose. We can see if we are comfortable with the object and are good at explaining the prompt or theme.
