Exploring Movie Reviews with English A Lang. & Lit. and French ab initio

On 19 January 2023, students of English A Language and Literature and French ab initio had the opportunity to experience a collaborative class with Miss Maria Anam Khan (English A facilitator) and Irtifa Ali(French ab initio facilitator). The goal of this lesson was to transfer the structure, format and conventions based knowledge explored earlier in French class to draft a mind map of the movie 1984 (that we have seen in English A class). This group 1 collaboration offered a fantastic opportunity of experiential learning and broadening the understanding of how language works as a powerful tool to communicate ideas and thoughts in various platforms.

Students were divided in two groups and they first reflected on the conceptual understanding of the purpose of the movie 1984. Then they researched appropriate French vocabulary and phrases which they must use to convey about the genre, director, release date, artists’ performances, the plot, the cinematography and positives and negatives of the movie. Students needed to use their analytical eye to communicate about the impact of the view.

The whole class was exciting and intriguing as we explored the innate power of language and how similar the methods of the transmission of ideas and conventions are in English and French. Both the facilitators and the students worked together in this inquiry and developed mind maps which can be used to write the movie review in French and English. This was undoubtedly a precious opportunity to understand the role of multilingualism in our global society.

This will be the first semester final in DP 1 so it will definitely be a new experience for the students of Year 11. This examination is not to be taken lightly, it is crucial for our university applications. Thankfully there are ways to increase our chances of scoring successfully. Revision: This is a pretty straightforward and obvious response, but it is the most effective. This exam will cover 3 months worth of information and there is no way anyone remembered all that. It should be a priority to go over the topics from each subject.  Revision can be done in many different ways, the most effective approach instead of just reading old notes and cramming all that, take new notes. This time we won't have the rush of following the lecture and taking notes. This way we can take important notes and know what to focus on.  Past Papers: As we were info...
