Digital Society Inquiry Project

Introduction to Internal Assessment Digital societies have become an indispensable part of our everyday lives. The rise of digital technologies has brought about many positive changes, including greater access to information, communication, and collaboration. At the same time, it has introduced new challenges, such as the need to cultivate critical thinking skills and a global perspective. Digital Societies provide students with the necessary opportunities to identify real-world problems and challenge themselves to devise solutions to make the digital world a better place.

Both Standard and Higher level students are required to complete the Internal Assessment during their course of Diploma Programme. SL and HL Duration: 30 hours Maximum marks: 24 at SL and HL Weighting: 30% at SL and 20% at HL Students are required to make their own inquiry document which contains the research questions, presentation and all sorts of references. This helps students to awaken their research skills and critical thinking in order to come up and provide a solution. It is a skill that is required for making informed decisions in all aspects of life, including the digital world.

Critical thinking skills are especially important in a digital society due to the vast amount of information available online. Students also develop their International mindedness, as the Internal Assessment gives an open opportunity to research any technology or digital problem related, as long as it's relevant and feasible. Connecting with people from all over the world is now easier than ever before thanks to advances in digital technology. For example, social media platforms enable us to communicate with people and groups from various backgrounds and cultures. We can gain new insights and perspectives by participating in online discussions that we would not have received otherwise.

DP Year 2 Collaborative Science Project Presentation: Exploring Water As The Basis Of Life

On the 8th of September, the DP-2 students got to present their findings related to the ‘Collaborative Science Project’, an interdisciplinary study combining the science subjects of biology, environmental systems and societies, chemistry and physics. The students utilised the umbrella theme of water under the topic of ‘evaluating water safety through purification and testing’. These elements are crucial indicators of water quality and have far-reaching implications for ecosystems, human health, and environmental sustainability. Their findings highlighted variations in water quality across different locations, emphasising the importance of monitoring and maintaining safe water standards.
