  With the new academic year beginning, the new DP 1 students were introduced to the idea of Model United Nation s  (MUN) for CAS on August the 13th. MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations, with students acting  as delegates, Secretary-Generals, committee staffs and committee chairs. MUN aims to educate young minds about  current global events, diplomacy, international relations and how the United Nations operates. Delegates need to  collaborate with other delegates to support each other's resolutions, sharing knowledge of their own ones and  listening to others proposals. Through MUNs, we as students can develop a multitude of skills, including:  presentation, public speaking, persuasion, research, critical thinking and situation analysis.    The sessions are taken by both Mr. Asad, our CAS supervisor, along with Mr. Mahfuz, a teacher here at  Australian International School who has experience in hosting MUNs in other educational institutes and has  trained students i

  On August 14th 2023, the DP Year 1 and DP year 2 girls officially started Taekwondo, followed by the DP boys on August 22nd. As fun as the classes were, the aftermath….let’s just say the DP students had a “good” exercise for the next 2 years. Taekwondo lessons are led by Mr. Ujjal and Mr. Asad, who have helped us take some wonderful pictures and videos for CAS. The first class went by in a jiffy as some basic Taekwondo movements were taught. We started the class with some interesting yet challenging stretches that prepared us for the rest of the class. We had learnt different kicks and punches, such as high raise, the front kick and the in-swing and out-swing. We also learnt the Korean terms for these movements such as “An-Sagi”, “Bakat-Sagi” and “Faru-ligi”. Throughout the class, we focused on perfecting the movements that we have learnt, as well as getting tips and help from Mr. Ujjal.   DP Year 1 and DP Year 2 began their academic year including a new CAS activity known as ‘First Aid’. AusIS has introduced a first aid class as a way of expanding student’s knowledge on medical and emergency situations. This activity aims to help students adapt and understand intense situations and have a logical understanding of what needs to be done, and the procedures which need to be taken in case of medical emergencies, Dr. Faisal is the teacher for first aid who has already taken a few classes on CPR, determining if a person is conscious or not, and the concept of first aid and its importance. The students have already undergone practical and theoretical scenarios with Dr. Faisal and what procedures and steps needed to be taken. The classes have been very productive and will continue to broaden the student’s knowledge. The students of DP Year 1 and DP ear 2 got to experience several immersive cooking lessons throughout the past few weeks, as part of their CAS activities. Gaining notoriety for being a fan- favorite class amongst students, they have gained a lot of experience and knowledge by using hands-on approaches in cooking and preparing the ingredients. Mr. Asad has been a wonderful guide and taught as many skills as possible including how to use a knife, how to chop vegetables and similar skills. Students were encouraged to participate in cooking by ‘sharpening’ their knife skills, helping prepare the ingredients for assembly, and taking turns in stirring or frying various items on the portable electric stoves provided.  During the first class, the students got to partake in making ‘palak pakoda’, or more commonly known as spinach pakora. Each student had their own share in creating the batter, cutting the spinach stems (as well as dicing leafy, fresh toppings) and frying the crunchy snacks.
