The second week, the students were tasked with a more interesting dish to create: luchi. Some select students had to travel to the cafeteria during lunchtime to help prepare the dough beforehand, so that it would be ready for rolling and frying once everyone had gone downstairs at 2:55 PM sharp.
Waiting in anticipation, the students each patiently took their turn to place their dough into the oil and watch as it bubbled up into wonderfully fluffy luchi. Alongside, some students were tasked with creating daal and raita to pair with it. It was a wonderful meal and the line for creating new batches of luchi grew endless.
Cooking has been a vital part of CAS so far and the students are thoroughly enjoying their experiences. It is an essential skill to have and develop while still in adolescence. It promotes independence, teaches practical life skills, encourages healthier eating habits, and can save money in the long run. It also fosters creativity and a sense of accomplishment, allowing individuals to prepare their own meals and make informed choices about their diet.
We look forward to the new creations we’ll be whipping up in the AusIS cafeteria.
