Recently in English A Language and Literature we have been studying this novel called 1984 by George Orwell. For the past few classes we’ve watched the movie adaptation of the novel.
The novel's central theme is to portray the high amount of control and power that is achievable under a really fascist government. It investigates how such a governing structure might affect society and its citizens. The society portrayed in “1984” is one in which social control is exercised through disinformation and surveillance. It's comparable to our society today since social media like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook have similar traits and that trait gathering the user’s private information like location searches in other apps etc.
Therefore, in my opinion the novel and today’s society are similar in many ways such as the lack of privacy and social control. This novel study provides a different perspective to power and authority and how power influences the life of every citizen in a society.
