Multi-lingual Collage Work on Festivals and Traditions

As Easter Sunday was near, there was a collaboration between the different language groups in DP to create a collage on the different festivals around the world. There had to be a primary focus on the three languages taught, such as English, Bengali and French but we also mentioned more festivals. This was different from the work we had done previously, as this focused more on imagery and it had to be more decorative.

There were 18 students present that day and they decided to divide themselves into 3 groups of 6. Each group had a different approach to their work. One group decided to create drawings of the unique aspects of each festival, such as phrases or features from the festival. Another group used printouts and one group had a creative display, using newspaper cutouts to create a mural essentially. With the three of these displays combined it created a very aesthetically pleasing collage on the different festivals and the different languages.

This type of work, while not that academically challenging, is important to all of us as IB learners. An integral part of IBDP is international mindedness. Intercultural understanding falls under this and it makes us more open-minded as we learn about different cultures and how to value them. It helps students embrace diversity and realize that different perspectives have a great deal to offer.

Not only that, huge collaboration projects like this is very enjoyable for all the students.

On Tuesday, November 15th, 2022. DP Y1 student Ariyaan Ahmed's father, Mr. Tanmay Ahmed visited the campus to conduct our first Parent - Student Workshop. Visit to EMK Center: A Hands-On Adventure in Technology and Innovation

Students from IB DP Year 2 and WACE 11 had an exciting and educational visit to the EMK Center, diving into the world of technology through interactive activities. The day began with a fun introduction to Makey Makey, where students turned everyday objects like paper and pencil into touchpads, blending creativity with basic electronics. They then engaged in a problem-solving session, learning the importance of asking the right questions before diving into solutions. Next, the students experienced the thrill of coding with a drone flying activity, where they controlled mini drones using tools similar to Scratch. Additionally, they got hands-on experience with SketchUp software, creating 3D models of houses, which helped them understand the basics of design and architecture. TOK Inquiry

We were given the topic of electronic cigarettes (also known as vaping) and whether or not they are bad for our health in our most recent TOK lesson. When a liquid is heated in an e-cigarette, it turns into vapors or, more precisely, aerosols that the user can inhale (thus "vaping"). These appliances heat chemicals like nicotine, marijuana, various flavorings, or other potentially hazardous compounds. Nicotine is habit-forming. While less dangerous than smoking, vaping is still not secure. You inhale an aerosol produced by heating nicotine (extracted from tobacco), flavorings, and other compounds in e-cigarettes. There are 7,000 compounds in regular tobacco cigarettes, many of which are harmful. There is obviously cause for concern given the unfortunate and distressing examples of serious lung illness.
