  Mandarin students of MYP Year 3, 4 and DP Year 1 attended the "Silk Road Chinese Music Concert Bangladesh" organized by the Embassy of China at North-South University on 27th August 2023. This captivating experience offered Mandarin students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the essence of China.   Various performances were held, ranging from traditional Chinese folk songs to Bangladeshi classical performances, coming together in a beautiful mix of cultures. The Silk Road Chinese Concert featured a wide array of performances, each more enchanting than the last. Cooking is a very important skill that we all must learn, so that we do not have to live off of instant noodles for our university lives. Plus, it is always impressive when one can cook. This week in our infamous cooking class, the DP-1 and DP-2 students have created something tiny, yet sweet. A traditional Bengali dish called “Gajorer Laddu'' or basically a dessert made from carrots. Healthy yet delicious? Win-win! (Maybe not that delicious, but it’s carrots!)   Making this dish was quite a joyous experience for both the DP-1 and DP-2 students. A simple yet mouth-watering dessert like this can be made anytime with very little effort. All the DP students worked collaboratively to make this dessert such as cutting the carrots, adding sugar and milk and even molding them into tiny little circles, while adding small chunks of pistachios.   On August the 14th, Digital Society students presented their insights into the school server system here at AusIS. Their findings were presented in the form of a slideshow. This proved to be a difficult yet engaging and interesting task.   The students were tasked with surveying the school IT executive with a set of questions set beforehand and had to present their findings. Together, the four of them had interviewed an IT executive named Mr. Nasib here at AusIS. Their findings included finding the amount of servers that were being hosted here at AusIS, their uses, and the maintenance needs.   During this journey, they were able to uncover a couple issues within the system, as it lacked protection from external attacks with ill intent. With no firewall or VPN in place, the school information could be quite vulnerable at the moment. On the third of September, four representatives from the Canadian University Application Centre visited AusIS. They spoke with the DP 1 and DP 2 students regarding a single university - Saint Mary’s University from Halifax Canada. The four representatives included Ms. Maria and Mr. Rashid; the two head speakers for this visit who spoke to us about all the commodities and aspects Saint Mary’s had to offer.   To add on, the Canadian University Application Centre, or CUAC in short, is a well-recognized student recruitment company which was launched in 1997. They provide students with advice and knowledge about the fields of study and certain universities in which they may be interested in.   The second week, the students were tasked with a more interesting dish to create: luchi . Some select students had to travel to the cafeteria during lunchtime to help prepare the dough beforehand, so that it would be ready for rolling and frying once everyone had gone downstairs at 2:55 PM sharp.  Waiting in anticipation, the students each patiently took their turn to place their dough into the oil and watch as it bubbled up into wonderfully fluffy luchi . Alongside, some students were tasked with creating daal and raita to pair with it. It was a wonderful meal and the line for creating new batches of luchi grew endless.   Cooking has been a vital part of CAS so far and the students are thoroughly enjoying their experiences. It is an essential skill to have and develop while still in adolescence.   TOK, also known as Theory of Knowledge, plays a special role in the IB Diploma Programme as it helps students reflect on the nature of knowledge and understand how they know what they know. Since the beginning of the new academic year, DP-1 students have started to take a look at the concepts and ideas of TOK. TOK has over 12 concepts which includes: Power, Culture, Responsibility, Truth, Perspective, Values, Objectivity, Justification, Evidence, Explanation, Interpretation and Certainty, along with 4 knowledge frameworks including Scope, Perspectives, Methods and Tools and last but not least, Ethics.    Recently, students of DP-1 have done a fun activity named “TOK Object Based Activity.” In a previous class, each student was given a card which had a specific TOK concept written on it and was told to explain it.
