Halloween at AusIS

Halloween or Hallowe'en is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the departed.    At  AusIS MYP students have made an intriguing and scary haunted house that students have to pay 50 taka to enter. The MYP students were helped by Mr.Sajib to make the haunted house. In the morning there was an assembly where all the students got to show off their scary outfits and feel the halloween spirit. The school also set up a scary movie for the students to enjoy in the auditorium. Halloween at AusIS was a fun and eventful day and with the help of staff and students we were able to pull off an amazing halloween event.

Why Become a Volunteer?

We were given research assignment on the benefits of volunteering. Since my childhood, my family has supported us volunteering for different causes- whether at family events, school events, volunteering to help out friends, family, etc. I have been brought up in a way that volunteering brings me happiness in a different way. This project has given me a way to explore the different other aspects of volunteering and it’s advantages. I have researched the health benefits of volunteering and included that in my project, which was assigned to all the English B students ( both HL and SL). This project has made me understand the benefits ( provided me with a factual perspective besides the existing underlying emotional aspect that I felt throughout my life).  I remember my first experience of volunteering as a kid. We had a community animal shelter in our neighborhood. I distinctly remember how happy I used to get to spend some “paw-some” time with my fur friends. I was a very shy ...

Bangla Literature Learning Portfolio

A learning portfolio is an organized collection of student work that shows the effort, development, successes, and abilities a student has acquired throughout a course or time at university. An individual's learning and interests are represented through a collection of artifacts called a learning portfolio. The goal is to demonstrate what has been learned, particularly in relation to standards like those in the common core curriculum.   In order to create a learning portfolio for our Bangla class, we were given the assignment to select a storybook and create a 5-minute audiovisual presentation about it. We must discuss the story's key characters, the plot, and how these elements relate to TOK and global awareness. Our assignments will be based on our speaking ability, the vocabulary we employ, and the subjects we will be covering.

Physics Experiment Measuring G (Falling Ball)

We actually began our physics practicals this week. We're carrying out the Measuring G (falling ball) experiment. This is a mandatory experiment for both sl and hl physics students . A ball is dropped from an electromagnet or other mechanism onto a trapdoor in this experiment. A timer is started when the ball is released. The timer stops when the ball hits the trapdoor. The acceleration due to gravity (g) can be calculated by measuring the distance between the ball and the trapdoor. We will also use the suvat equation, which we learned at the start of chapter 2, to calculate, and we will have to write a report in which we will evaluate and conclude what we did in our experiment.

UN Day History

United Nations Day, on 24 October, marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. No other global organization gives hope to so many people for a better world and can deliver the future we want. Today, the urgency for all countries to come together, to fulfill the promise of the nations united, has rarely been greater.   UN Day, celebrated every year, offers the opportunity to amplify our common agenda and reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that have guided us for the past 77 years.

Field Trip at Savar!

On the 3rd of November AusIS has planned a study tour to a factory in Savar for all students in IBDP. It will be a daytrip from 8:00AM to 2:00PM. This trip aims to improve students' concepts of various subjects and connect real life field work to their learning. This looks to be a fun opportunity for the students of IBDP in AusIS and is a great idea for their international mindedness and to evolve as a global citizen.  The purpose of the field trip is to engage students into further understanding of their subjects by using a real world example. The subjects in focus of this trip lead towards Business Management, Economics, Environmental Systems and Societies and Physics. With students in DP 1 completing the introduction to business management and microeconomics it will certainly guide them to a better conceptual understanding of the subject, which everyone knows is the key element to any IBDP subject.    What is interesting about this field trip is how beneficial i...

Sparks Flying!

It was IBDP’s first ESS (Environmental Systems and Societies) Lab work. It was quite simple. Light a paper. And light a candle. And so, they thought. As per usual, Maryam Bushra was eager to light a splint for the very first time. So, she did. The flame travelled across the matchstick quickly and nearly engulfed her finger. She exclaimed, “Allahu Akbar (God is Greater)!”, and quickly dropped the match stick onto the fireproof dish. The whole class erupted with laughter.  Already a fail. Next came her sister, Amina Bushra, ready to prove that she could successfully lit the paper on fire. Her excitement coupled with her quick hands lit the splint rapidly. Swish, sparks flew. And kissed her sister’s shoulder. Maryam jumped. The class hooted, “You tried to murder your sister!” Second fail. Now nearing the end of the experiment, it was time to blow the candle. Guess who wanted to blow it? Maryam Bushra. So, she huffed and puffed, And blew. The ash, paper and wax all blew onto Bij...

Modeling a System Using Candles- ESS Experiment

I am an ESS student and a few days ago we had an experiment called “Modeling a system Using Candles.” The steps of this experiment are:  1. Carefully light the piece of paper whilst holding it over the enamel dish. Drop the paper into the dish before you burn your fingers. 2. Observe the way in which the fire develops and then dies away. 3. Light the candle observing how the flame develops. Drop some molten wax into the bottom of the dish so that you can stand the candle up on its own. 4. Light a splint and then blow out the candle. Relight the candle bringing the splint towards the wick, watch carefully to see if it is necessary to touch the wick with the flame to relight it. 5. Extinguish the candle and allow the wax to cool down completely. Relight the candle (is it necessary to touch the wick with the flame?) and observe the candle flame. After the experiment we are supposed to write a lab report explaining the outcome...

Manger et Mangoes (Poster Activity of French ab initio )

At first sight you might’ve thought, ‘Wait a sec, did she write mangoes twice?’ Nope! It’s French and mangoes: a.k.a eating and mangoes. Sounds delicious right?   Yum!   Well, it is. Healthy eating can just as juicy and sweet as mangoes and as enticing as French. How? It’s simple. Just do what our class Grade 11 IBDP did. Talk about healthy eating in French, with art. And voilà healthy eating is beautiful! Check them out now, And Bon Appétit! With love, Amina Bushra Grade 11 IBDP

Welcome to AusIS Blog!
